Call for Applications – Editorial Board

Tocqueville 21, a bilingual online journal covering history, democracy, and transatlantic affairs in the 21st century, is recruiting!

We aim to add five new members to our Editorial Team. Editors solicit and curate essays, book reviews, and special focus series for the site, as well as contribute their own posts. We are also seeking a Social Media Editor and a Multimedia Editor / Producer to assist with the expansion of Tocqueville 21’s online presence.

Editor Responsibilities

  • Soliciting and editing articles, book reviews, and interviews
  • Organizing and coordinating review fora with established academics and new voices
  • Producing regular articles on topics of history, democracy, and international politics for Tocqueville 21
  • Responding to pitches and communication with press and readers
  • Participate in the planning of new content and strategies during monthly editorial meetings

Social Media Editor Responsibilities

  • Managing the blog website and social media content 
  • Coordinating posts and promotion of new content across T21’s social media accounts
  • Participate in the planning of new content and strategies during monthly editorial meetings

Multimedia Editor / Producer Responsibilities

  • Promote the growth of T21 multimedia projects across all hosting platforms
  • Assist in the planning of new podcast episodes and YouTube videos
  • Identify and approach potential podcast / YouTube interview guests
  • Assemble and edit video and audio recordings
  • Participate in the planning of new content and strategies during monthly editorial meetings

Qualifications

  • Excellent writing skills—experience writing for a public audience is preferred
  • An awareness of current academic literature in democratic theory and the history of political thought
  • Familiarity with a diverse range of media sources in English required, and strongly preferred in French
  • French language skills strongly preferred; other foreign language skills welcome
  • Experience with (or commitment to learning) WordPress 
  • For Social Media Editor candidates: 
    • Hands on experience in content management
    • Excellent copywriting and communication skills
    • Solid knowledge of SEO, keyword research and Google Analytics
    • Familiarity with web design
  • For Multimedia Editor / Producer candidates: 
    • Audio or video editing and podcast producing experience
    • Experience with content management
