Macron, acting quickly for once, has nominated defense minister Sébastien Lecornu to be the next prime minister. This, of course, resolves nothing if Lecornu cannot win the confidence of the AN. The one thing he has going for him is that he has no presidential ambitions. Hence he can offer portfolios to the numerous deputies who do have such ambitions in exchange for their support and whatever votes they can bring with them. It seems that the finance ministry has also drawn up a list of goodies to be given to the left.
Nevertheless, Lecornu is probably too close to Macron, essentially a mini-me, who has been at his side since 2017. This will not inspire confidence among the many who blame Macron for the whole mess. À suivre.
